PFS CASTOR Rugged Whip Antenna

The CASTOR is a rugged, frequency-specific handheld radio antenna designed for field use, where durability and dependable RF performance matter more than gimmicks.

At its core is a 1.5 mm superelastic Nitinol radiating element that can bend, flex, and return to shape without the permanent kinks common to traditional whip materials. The radiator is protected by Raychem HFT5000 abrasion-resistant sleeving to help withstand repeated contact with gear, packs, vehicles, and equipment.

Each CASTOR is built around a 50-ohm BNC connector and individually assembled, tuned, and tested by Pollux Field Systems before shipment.

Tuned for the Frequencies You Actually Use

Rather than trying to make one antenna perform everywhere, CASTOR antennas are built around specific operating ranges.

CASTOR GMRS (462–468 MHz) - Optimized specifically for GMRS operation.

CASTOR UHF (440–470 MHz) -Designed for UHF amateur, commercial, and other appropriate land-mobile applications within the selected range.

CASTOR FIELD (148–155 / 440–470 MHz) - A dual-band field configuration for users who need VHF and UHF capability from one rugged whip.

CASTOR CUSTOM - Built and tuned around your requested operating frequency. Enter your desired frequency in the order notes.

Individually Tested — Not Just Cut to Length

Every CASTOR is checked on calibrated RF test equipment before it leaves PFS.

Our production standard is ≤2.0:1 SWR across the antenna's advertised operating range when tested on the PFS reference fixture, with typical readings near the design center frequency generally falling around 1.4–1.7:1.

Portable whip antennas use the radio chassis, counterpoise, operator, mounting arrangement, and surrounding environment as part of the RF system. Because of this, SWR measured on an individual radio may differ from laboratory or fixture measurements. A perfect 1.0:1 reading is neither promised nor required for effective antenna performance.

Built for Field Use

The CASTOR was designed to be an antenna you can actually use hard—mounted on handheld radios, carried on kit, packed into bags, used around vehicles, and bent without treating it like a fragile piece of equipment.

No universal-frequency claims. No obsession with an unrealistic bench-top 1.0:1 SWR number.

Just a durable antenna designed, tuned, and tested for its intended operating range.

Dual-Band Disclaimer: HT dual-band whips involve inherent performance compromises, and results vary by radio, frequency, and environment. Performance across every portion of both bands cannot be guaranteed. Undamaged, unworn antennas may be exchanged, with the customer responsible for return and replacement shipping. Replacement postage is charged at actual cost with no markup; customers may also provide a prepaid label.
