A Network That Moves With You
Advanced MANET technology. Real-world connectivity. No infrastructure required.
Traditional communications depend on infrastructure. Cellular networks need towers, conventional Wi-Fi needs access points, and many communication systems rely on a central connection to function.
But what happens when that infrastructure isn't available?
The Nucleus by Natak Mesh brings mobile ad hoc networking (MANET) into a portable, adaptable platform designed to keep people, devices, and critical information connected beyond conventional coverage.
Whether you're operating in remote terrain, coordinating field teams, or building a resilient communications system, Nucleus offers a different approach to staying connected.

What Is MANET?
Â
MANET stands for Mobile Ad Hoc Network. Unlike traditional wireless networks, MANET systems can establish and maintain connections between devices without depending on fixed infrastructure.
Each node can communicate with neighboring nodes while also relaying data for others on the network.
Â
This creates a network that is:
-
Self-forming: Compatible nodes discover one another and establish connections automatically.
-
Self-healing: When a connection is lost, the network can identify alternative routes when available.
-
Expandable: Additional nodes can extend coverage and create new communication paths.
-
Mobile: The network can adapt as connected teams and devices change positions.
-
Infrastructure-independent: No cellular towers, internet providers, or central base stations are required for local operation.
Â
Instead of every user needing a direct connection to a central point, information can travel across multiple nodes to reach its destination.
Â
Your team doesn't just connect to the network. Your team helps create it.

Does MANET Matter?

Communications are often most important in the places where traditional infrastructure is least dependable.

Remote environments, natural disasters, damaged cellular networks, and large operational areas all present challenges for conventional systems.
MANET technology addresses these challenges by aams to establish their own wireless data networks.

For search and rescue personnel, this can mean sharing positions and coordinating movements beyond cellular coverage.
For emergency management, it provides another layer of communications resilience when existing infrastructure is compromised.
For outdoor teams, preparedness groups, and field operators, it opens the door to capabilities that once required considerably more complex infrastructure.
And unlike traditional voice-only radios, broadband MANET systems can support much more than spoken communication.

Maps. Location data. Messages. Images. Voice. Video. A shared operational picture.
All delivered through a network that your team can deploy and control, subject to the capabilities of the available radio links.

What Makes Nucleus Different?

The Nucleus takes this technology further by combining two complementary wireless mesh networks into one device.
High-Speed Wi-Fi Mesh
The Nucleus uses a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi mesh network to support applications requiring greater data capacity.
This makes it particularly useful for ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit), enabling connected users to exchange location information, messages, mapping data, imagery, and supported voice or video communications.
Rather than relying on internet connectivity, users can operate these services directly across the local mesh.

Long-Range LoRa Connectivity

Alongside its Wi-Fi mesh, Nucleus incorporates a separate LoRa radio using Meshtastic technology.

LoRa provides an additional, lower-bandwidth communications path for information such as position reports and text messages, potentially reaching well beyond the coverage of the higher-speed Wi-Fi mesh.

Its built-in Cursor-on-Target (CoT) bridge can forward supported ATAK situational awareness information and chat traffic over LoRa.
Together, these networks provide an important advantage: higher-capacity communications where the Wi-Fi mesh is available, with a longer-range, lower-bandwidth option for essential information.

Built for Situational Awareness
Â
One of the Nucleus's most valuable capabilities is its integration with ATAK.
ATAK allows teams to visualize locations, exchange information, mark points of interest, and coordinate operations through a common digital map.
Nucleus provides the underlying network that allows these devices to communicate even when cellular service is unavailable.
Â
Depending on network configuration and available bandwidth, teams can:
Â
-
Share real-time GPS positions and map markers.
-
Exchange text messages and operational information.
-
Transfer images, files, and other data.
-
Support voice and video communication across the Wi-Fi mesh.
-
Extend selected ATAK information over the LoRa network.
-
Integrate with a local or remote TAK server.
